Description
Cueva de la Arena is accessible by boat only, the cave is located next to a beach of the same name in Los Haitises National Park.
The cave was inhabited by the Taino Indians before colonial times. It is decorated with pictograms, petroglyphs and bas-reliefs. Inside the cave there are several graffiti which represent birds. There are also drawings of boats that are said to be boats of the first colonizers. The cave is about 1 kilometer deep. It is one of the sites to visit when visiting the park.
On arrival there is a small beach with a small house which is inhabited by fishermen.
The national park has other caves that can be visited and which also have pre-Columbian cave paintings such as the Ferrocarril cave, San Gabriel, Boca del Infierno, Jony o Lelo, Cueva de Tony, Willy Simo, Cueva del Indio, Carpintero, Las Conchas.
