From this fertile land are born 80% of the most important hydrographic basins in the country, like Yuma, Yaque del Norte, Yaque del Sur, Camu, Blanco and Maimon.
Salto de Jima: A treasure for ecotourism.
Recently qualified for ecotourism, it is a real hidden treasure, these rivers and spas, for its proximity to Santo Domingo, are among everyone's favorites. The journey to get there is quite spectacular, having to go through vast expanses of rice fields, reveling in the spirit with the beautiful vegetation of the country.
Threatens to become one of the most visited places in Cibao for its beauty. Its large shrubs and its imposing white water cascade with a great diversity of flora and fauna are some of the characteristics that captivate the visitor.
According to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the region is full of a wide variety of native species, such as hijos, ciguas, sablitos, macho helechos, ceibas. However, these species are affected by charcoal production and agriculture.
It also has various species of birds, such as the Cigua Constanza, the Barrancoli, Parajo Bobo, parakeets and other native and endemic birds in addition to amphibians and reptiles.

Salto de Jima is about 12.42 miles after Bonao coming from Santo Domingo which is 59 miles away. It is one of the main ecotourism attractions in the region. The waterfall has been declared a natural monument in order to preserve the biodiversity of this area.
