Description
The famous Pyramids of Constanza, are located in the Valle Nuevo National Park, about 93 miles from the city of Santo Domingo.
For many years and even today, its location is believed to be the center of the island of Hispaniola.
However, this claim has been refuted by official sources. For its uniqueness, it is one of the points of interest on any excursion to Constanza or to the Valle Nuevo park.
The monument was built in 1958 during the time of Trujillo, as a gesture of gratitude to the tyrant by different personalities, for having built the road from San Jose de Ocoa
to Constanza. The point where it is located indicates the division of the two municipalities.
The construction of the pyramids was made by the Spanish workers, because the local workers could not withstand the local climatic conditions of this region, as the work was done in winter by temperatures quite cold, even below zero. br>
Other beliefs that have been refuted about this monument are the fact that it has been on the island since pre-Columbian times or that the four projections are oriented towards the four cardinal points. Nevertheless, the Constanza pyramids are one of the most interesting and original original monuments that can be found in the Dominican territory. Its triangular construction on four pillars is reminiscent of older buildings from other parts of the world.
