The Eduardo Leon Jimenez Cultural Center opened in October 2003 in the city of Santiago de los Caballeros. It is one of the most important cultural centers in Latin America and the Caribbean. The idea for its creation came in 1964 during the first artistic competition Eduardo Leon Jimenez.
The León Center is a space dedicated to contributing to the dissemination and appreciation of Dominican art and culture in all areas, not only national, but also international. Its approach is driven primarily by the development of cultural and educational programs that use creativity, cultural identity and environmental conditions aimed at promoting community development.
The building that houses the Center is an important example of architectural art. Among the four exhibition halls available, one is dedicated to temporary exhibitions while the other three are permanent exhibitions, be it the Dominican cultural identity, or the history of painting and visual arts in the Dominican Republic.
The Leon Center of Santiago also has multipurpose spaces, offer workshops, seminars and conferences, an auditorium which has held film screenings, lectures, lectures and presentations, and a multimedia library, where you can access a catalog of 'works online and where you can research various physical and virtual sources.
The amenities of the place are complemented with access to the library and cafeteria. This borders the Carribean courtyard, where concerts and video cafes feature several times a month.
Today it is one of the places to visit to watch the cultural and artistic events of the Dominican Republic. It has staff who conduct guided tours in Spanish, French and English for visitors. It has large exhibitions of national and international artists, which are accompanied by a wide and varied program of educational and entertainment activities.
Access to most of the centre's activities such as the cinema or video café, or use of the media library is free.
