Description
Mata de Maiz is a natural swimming pool in Polo in the province of Barahona, in the southwest of the Dominican Republic.
The place is very busy on weekends and public holidays on the other hand on weekdays it is very calm and therefore very pleasant to have a good time with family and friends and enjoy crystal clear waters of a unparalleled blue color. There are some deep places and some shallow ones, so be careful for visitors who cannot swim as well as for children.
It is possible to drive down to the Las Auyamas Mata de Maiz river but you need a 4x4 style vehicle, but there is parking a 10 minute walk from the pool. You can bring food and drink, but don't forget to leave with your garbage. There are still far too many people who think that nature is a trash can!
Balneario Mata de Maiz is a marvel for nature and ecotourism lovers. The place is a bit remote, it is advisable to go early to be able to fully enjoy this magical place.
