Description

Los Tres Ojos Park is an archaeological site consisting of a cave with three underground lakes and an open-air lake. It was discovered in 1916. This cave was undoubtedly frequented by the aborigines who inhabited the island of Hispaniola.

In the past it was a public bath (Bano de Anacaona) until it was banned to protect the ecosystem. The lakes are fed by an underground river called Brujuela, which goes all the way to Boca Chica.

The water of the three underground lakes is particularly clear and limpid, we can even see some fish. The caves are covered with stalactites and stalagmites.

The four lakes of Los Tres Ojos Park are:

  • Aguas Azufradas (sulfur water): it is the first lake when entering the cave.
  • La Nevera (The refrigerator): this is the second lake, this lake does not receive sunlight and therefore the water temperature is cool (15 ° to 20 ° C).
  • Las Damas (the Ladies): it is the third lake, it is shallow and out of the way, before it was used as a bath by the ladies and children.
  • Los Zaramagullones (a species of duck): The fourth lake is the only one that is open, it is about 220 meters in circumference.

Access to the lakes is easy, the place has been fitted out with stairs and the visit is quite quick (less than an hour), Los Tres Ojos is one of the sites to visit in Santo Domingo.
The nearest hotels are the Tropicana, the Acuarium Suite Resort and the Hotel Victor.
