Description
Jose del Carmen Ramirez Park is located in the Cordillera Central, south of Armando Bermudez Park and north of the towns of Azua de Compostela and San Juan de la Maguana. It is one of the oldest national parks in the Dominican Republic (1958). It is 764 km2 and it extends over 3 provinces (San Juan, La Vega and Azua).
It is also one of the coldest regions of the country, with temperatures ranging from 12 to 21 °, in the morning the temperature can reach 3°.
Like the Armando Bermudez national park, its main attraction are the walks in the mountain through landscapes of great beauty and the excursions to Pic Duarte which is the main ecotourism destination of the Dominican Republic.
The flora is mainly composed of pines, cedars, wild tamarinds and other tropical species. The fauna is composed of rodents, mouflon pigs and many birds such as the parakeet, the golden swallow, the Hispaniola parrot, nightingales, turtledoves...
The main reception for visitors is in Sabaneta near San Jan de la Maguana, there is another access point near Los Frios. Lovers of nature, ecotourism and ecology come for a long walk in the Jose del Carmen Ramirez Park.
