The Colonial Zone
or Colonial City is the main
tourist attraction of Santo Domingo. This is the oldest part
of the capital of Dominican Republic, it was built
in the early sixteenth century by Spanish settlers after the discovery
of the island of Hispaniola by Christopher Columbus.
She keeps a historical record of this period with many buildings, homes and monuments that were built throughout the centuries of colonization, most of which can be visited:
- Cathedral Santa Maria
- Alcazar de Colon
- Ozama Fortress
- National Pantheon
- The ruins of the monastery of San Francisco
- Spanish place
- Many colonial houses
With these historic monuments
is a major tourist attraction for travelers and tourists
who come to the Dominican Republic on vacation or for work. It receives
visitors from all over the country and since the opening of the
highway Del Coral, Santo Domingo is just two hours drive from Punta Cana Bavaro Cap Cana, giving new life to the Colonial Zone .
Walking through the small streets, sightseeing, stroll, enjoy a drink on the terrace of a cafe is a great time. This part of the capital is not only a historical site, it is also a cultural center, entertainment and recreation. Cultural events are held frequently and sometimes concerts...
The main street of the Colonial Zone is Calle Conde is a pedestrian street that starts from Independence Park to the Ozama River. In this street are many shops of all kinds, though it has lost some of its splendor, this is no longer the main shopping street of the city.
The Colonial City has many
bars, restaurants, nightclubs that make it a place with a vibrant
nightlife. This is not the only place where Santo Domingo nightlife,
the city has much to celebrate as the Malecon
with its luxury hotels and casinos, Venezuela Avenue (La Venez)
where there a series of sports-bars, drinks, clubs... and many other
places, there is (almost) a place where a drink and listen to music
at every corner.
This tourist area of Santo Domingo also has many hotels and aparthotels for tourists, business travelers and businessmen.

It is the place to visit in Santo Domingo, it is in the Colonial Zone that are located the main historical monuments of the city, the best restaurants ... it is without doubt the places to visit in the capital of the Dominican Republic. I went there several times, it's nice to have a coffee on the terrace of a bar, to stroll along the little street, to visit the museums ...
