Salcedo - Dominican Republic

Salcedo is the capital of the Hermanas Mirabal province, north of the Dominican Republic. Salcedo is known as the cradle of the Mirabal sisters, three sisters who died fighting the dictatorship of Rafael Leonidas Trujillo.

The Cordillera Septentrional crosses the north side of town. The rivers in this province are short and most important are Cenoví, and Bacuí Jayabo.
An interesting place is the Museum and Monument to Mirabal sisters in the towns of Ojo de Agua and Conuco. Since 2006, he developed the initiative of the Ruta de los Wall, which now constitute the largest sample of mural painting and the Dominican Republic and Caribbean.

Salcedo is a prominent agricultural town with the main products, bananas, cassava, cocoa and coffee. Tourism is almost non-existent with very little accommodation, one hotel, La Casona Gran Imperial.
