Museums in Santo Domingo

During a visit to Santo Domingo and the Colonial Zone there are many museums to visit, a day is not enough. Many small hotels in the Colonial Zone used to spend one or more nights at a good price.

The National Museum of History and Geography

Museum of the history , geography and heritage of the Dominican Republic contributed along the way of the country's historical journey. The exhibitions focus on the first inhabitants of the island, the North American intervention and its interaction with Haiti.

The Museum of Man Dominicain

Museum of the Dominican Man with the best pre-Colombian collection of archaeology, religious pieces and sculptures. Also with the most important exhibition of tainos items of the country.

The Museum of Modern Art

Museum of Modern Art of the Dominican Republic presents permanently the masterpieces of the most notorious Dominican artists.

Las Casas Reales

This museum is about the rich history of Santo Domingo and colonization with tapestries, furniture, maps and other objects from 1492 until 1821 he was the mayor's office.

Las Atarazanas Reales

Museum of underwater archaeology, with brick warehouses where was kept the merchandise that arrived to the port. Because the main buildings cities were being built with stones they were made of brick a secondary material.

The Museum Faro a Colon

The Faro a Colon is a monument dedicated to the memory of Christopher Columbus with a museum based on the history of the discovery of the Americas, colonization and evangelization. Was opened in 1992 celebrating the First Centenary of the Encounter between two cultures. It has 237 meters long by 52 meters wide and reflects the light in a cross shape in the sky at night. It also has a mausoleum where the rest of the ashes of Christopher Columbus.

Alcazar de Colon

Alcazar de Colon was the headquarters of Christopher Columbus court and his wife Maria de Toledo, this palace displays items belonging to Columbus family , it was built in the 1500s by Christopher Columbus’s son Diego. It mixed the styles Gothic and the Spanish and Italian renaissance.

Museum of the Dominican Family of the Nineteenth Century

This is a Colonial mansion that was built in 1503, and displays personal items belonging to a wealthy Dominican family from the 19th century. Even though its content is fascinating, most of the museum is the house itself, which has the only double Gothic window in all of North and South America.

The Museum of Niño Trampolín

This Museum allows the children to learn in a modern and fun space, it has gardens, movie theatre, library, craftwork expositions and interactive activities as the simulation of an earthquake, it has eight rooms with permanent exhibitions and offers guided tours for children of 4 thought 12 years old.
