Route from Santo Domingo to Las Terrenas

Las Terrenas is located about 93 miles (150 km) from the capital of the Dominican Republic, more or less 2 hours and 15 minutes by car.

The construction of the Juan Pablo II highway and the Atlantic Boulevard have considerably reduced travel time from Santo Domingo to Las Terrenas and the Samaná Peninsula. Before it took 4 hours to get there and 4 hours to get there, today with only 4 hours (round trip) the inhabitants of the capital can go to Las Terrenas for a weekend despite the price of the toll which is quite high.

Local tourism has grown strongly in recent years.

To get to Las Terrenas, take the Las Américas highway to the Juan Pablo II highway, which is a few kilometers before the Las Américas tollbooth. The entrance to get there is on the left of the highway.
Then the road is direct until the entrance of the Samana Peninsula, there are 4 tolls (Marbella, Naranjal, Guaraguao, Catey).
Then take Boulevard de l'Atlantique to your destination.
You can take the old road through Sanchez and Los Puentes, it's longer but cheaper.
Traffic is not very heavy except on long weekends and Holy Week when thousands of vacationers travel to the Samaná Peninsula.

Las Terrenas is located on the Samana Peninsula with a few all-inclusive hotels, hotels, aparthotels and villas for vacation and weekend rentals.
Las Terrenas and, in general, the entire peninsula of Samaná has some of the most beautiful beaches in the Dominican Republic (Cosón, Las Ballenas, Morrón, El Limón, El Portillo, Bonita...) which have made this part of the country a tourist success.
Tourism in Las Terrenas is quite developed. The improvement of the road network has considerably reduced the distances.

In Santo Domingo, the Asotrapusa stop (Association of Public Transport Workers of Sámana) is located in Barahona Street (near Plaza Lama de la Duarte), it is the most economical way to get to Las Terrenas. There is a stop on the Las Americas highway, at the start of the Juan Pablo II highway.
