The hotel El Pedernal (FUNDACIPE) is located in Pedernales in the extreme west of the Dominican Republic.

It has been completely renovated recently (2011) is offering 13 comfortable rooms. El Pedernal has a restaurant cafeteria.

The hotel has an Interpretation Centre on natural resources and the biosphere reserve of the Dominican Republic national parks of Jaragua and Sierra de Bahoruco, where visitors can have direct contact with nature in this region.

A meeting room is available for workshops, meetings, etc...

Pedernales is a small town that is far from everything (which is partly its charm) whose main activities are agriculture, livestock and fishing. Tourism is developing, it is an essentially local tourism, Dominicans who come on vacation and enjoy the beautiful beaches of the south of the Dominican Republic and especially Bahia de las Aguilas.

Santo Domingo is more than 300 km away and Bavaro Punta Cana is 500 km away (8 hours drive, minimum), which explains why guests of the all-inclusive hotels do not visit Pedernales.
