Bayahibe - Dominican Republic
is a small village in the east of the Dominican Republic, located
10 minutes of La
Romana, on the Caribbean coast. Founded as a rural population
of fishermen in 1874 by Juan Brito and his family, the city is now
a major tourist destination in the Dominican Republic
with Playa Dominicus.
Originally Bayahibe was a small fishing village, today the majority of fishermen is converted in the transport of tourists to neighboring islands. The village (not to be confused with Dominicus) is small with restaurants, many agencies excursions, diving centers, two or three bars, a small supermarket, a billiard room, a colmado (grocery store) where together, in the late afternoon people (villagers and foreigners) around a President really fresh. In the village there is also a nightclub, which is open on weekends only. It is a peaceful and quiet village, once the tourists from Dominicus, Punta Cana, Juan Dolio... to spend the day on the island Saona and Catalina left the village.

Bayahibe and Dominicus are famous for its white sand beaches, Dominicus beach is one of the few beaches in the Caribbean which has awarded the blue flag. At about 4 Kms ago Dominicus Beach, another popular beach in the region.

Bayahibe and Dominicus are small tourist village, with about fifteen of hotels and aparthotels. Is well situated for visiting the Caribbean coast of the Dominican Republic (Santo Domingo, Juan Dolio, Alto de Chavon, Boca Chica), north-east with Samana and Las Terrenas and the coast of coconut (Punta Cana - Bavaro). The new highway between La Romana and Punta Cana shortened the distances from Bayahibe to the rest of the Dominican Republic and other tourism and ecotourism activities, excursions of the island.
Tourist attractions and places to visit in Bayahibe
Close to 10 diving clubs allow you to discover the flora and fauna of the underwater Caribbean Sea, you can admire the gardens of coral reefs with many varieties of fish (skates, moray eels, lobster, angel fish, turtles... ), corals, sponges, etc. The clubs offer dives for all levels.

Cave del Puente
The cave del Puente is located 3 kms from the park entrance from east. The trail is easy to access. This cave has beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. Do not forget the flashlight. To access the cave Del Puente all have to go down the road to Playa Dominicus, after Cadaques Caribe Resort.

Cave of Wonders (Cueva de las Maravillas)
The Cueva de las Maravillas
is located between La Romana and San
Pedro de Macoris, she was discovered in 1926. About 30% of the cave
is open to the public. Inside you will see stalactites, stalagmites and

Boca de Yuma is a small
village between La Romana and Higuey, bordering the Caribbean Sea. Boca
de Yuma is a peaceful and quiet, the main activity is fishing, on the
Malecon there are many small restaurants offering fresh fish and lobsters.
East National Park is between Bayahibe
and Boca de Yuma is a lush reserve with dozens of species of birds and plants.
With 420 km2 is the largest park in the Dominican Republic.
Museum Juan Ponce de Leon
The museum Juan Ponce
De Leon is located in the small town of San Rafeal de Yuma, a few kilometers
before Boca De Yuma. This house castle was the home of Juan Ponce de Leon,
a Spanish conquistador, who lived in the Dominican Republic before moving
to Puerto Rico. This museum features furniture and objects from this period.

Coming from Bayahibe take the old road that leads to Higuey or take the highway Del Coral until exit Higuey and then take the direction of San Rafael de Yuma.
