Sabana de la Mar - Dominican Republic
Sabana de la Mar
is a town of Hato Mayor province. It is located 44 kilometers from
the provincial capital of Hato
Mayor del Rey and 154 kilometers from the city of Santo Domingo
(about 3 hours by car). Sabana de la Mar is located in the south
of the Bay of Samana.
It was founded in 1760 in face of Samana
by the families of the Canary Islands. The main industry is fishing
and agriculture. It is a quiet town, around the square, restaurants
offer excellent seafood and fresh fish.
Tourism in Sabana de la Mar has increased recently, mainly ecotourism
to Los
Haitises Park, located near the central area of the municipality
and where you see the greatest natural wealth of the West Indies.
